KAHN IN VENICE

Louis I. Kahn (Kuressaare, 1901 – New York, 1974) admired Italy’s architectural treasures and Italy admired Kahn’s work. The grand culmination happened when, in 1968, Kahn was invited to design the Palazzo dei Congressi for Venice, his only project in Italy, which was never built. The centerpiece of this exhibition, designed by Barton Myers Associates, will be a charcoal sketch by Kahn of the elevation, five feet high by twelve feet long, with a model of the Arsenale site. Also on view are original developmental sketches by Kahn, reproductions of plans and photos of the first model. The opening will feature the award nominated film My Architect by Kahn’s son Nathaniel who will be in attendance.
